Chapter Awards
Commitment to Lifelong Membership
Through relationships that have been purposely developed and maintained, chapters and members are better able to accomplish organizational and personal goals because they are surrounded by those who support the endeavors. Seniors are some of the most influential members in the chapter, and celebrating them while guiding them in the transition to a meaningful alumni/ae experience should be a priority. Similarly, alumni/ae offer a wealth of knowledge and insight that can help to strengthen and support chapters. Creating and maintaining both a senior experience and relationships with alum are invaluable as these folks can bring expertise, working knowledge of internal structures, and a deep investment in the continual success of the organization. This award recognizes chapters with outstanding programs for senior and/or alumni/ae engagement sustained throughout the academic year.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Fraternity and sorority members have long been leaders and changemakers on college campuses and beyond, and now more than ever this change must include a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Organizations have the unique opportunity to make change in fraternity and sorority life and UCSB communities by using their platforms to share resources and amplify voices, and internally by engaging their members in difficult conversations and working against potential stereotypes of the communities they serve. It is crucial for organizations to evaluate their contributions to harmful systems within FSL and work to challenge the process in order to make this experience accessible and equitable. This award recognizes chapters who have committed to providing opportunities for their members to continue learning about DEI topics, strived for a more equitable membership process by reflecting on their past and current practices, and taken action to make their chapter, council, and or community a more inclusive and welcoming space for all.

Chapter of the Year
The fraternity and sorority system at the University of California, Santa Barbara is comprised of many chapters founded on principles of enacting change to make a positive, consequential impact on those around them.
Fraternities and sororities should help individuals practice personal and academic integrity and excellence of character, as well as expect the same from others; respect the dignity, value, and worth of all persons while learning from the differences in people, ideas, and opinions; respect the rights and property of others; demonstrate their feelings and communal need for conditions that promote personal growth and academic success; and honor and contribute to the rich heritage left by those who have preceded current membership and work to leave a lasting legacy for those who follow.
Chapters espouse the ideals of bettering its members and the community at large, and thus, are expected to fulfill accreditation requirements in the areas of academics, risk management and prevention, educational workshops, and community service.
In addition, UCSB fraternity and sorority chapters are asked to uphold the four pillars of Scholarship, Citizenship, Service, and Leadership. The Fraternity & Sorority Life Awards Committee is proud to honor the chapters that have excelled in all of these areas by embodying the purpose and mission of fraternal organizations while working diligently to maintain the highest standards for their chapter at UCSB.
